Compact with a compact
Challenge finished on Thursday, 19 Feb 2009
Put away those interchangeable lens bodies, dust off the compact (old or new) and focus on something, well, compact. Anything which economizes on space is acceptable: gadgets, animals, architecture etc. Remember, compact doesn't necessarily mean small, large items can be compact too! Remember, your shot has to be taken with a compact

Another point of view
Challenge finished on Monday, 16 Feb 2009
It's sometimes too easy to take the 'obvious' photo, and this is even more true when you're shooting a famous landmark or place. A standard, archetypal image of that location or feature becomes popular and these inspiring buildings and places of wonder become the stuff of postcards. This challenge is about pictures of buildings and places that people know, captured in an way they're not used to. Make the familiar and famous look unusual, expected and exciting.

The Magic of Monochrome

I want to ride my bicycle
Challenge finished on Thursday, 12 Feb 2009
Belief in Peter Pan, Superman or Frankenstein is entirely optional. What isn't, however, is an understanding of sense of freedom and exhilaration that self-powered propulsion can bring. Alternatively, try to show an appreciation of the precision engineering that goes into a modern bike.

Small Falls
Challenge finished on Saturday, 07 Feb 2009
Landscapes are a popular photographic subject, and some of the most appealing landscape features are undoubtably waterfalls. So in this challenge we want to see your waterfall pictures, but with a slight twist. The big, obvious attractions (Niagara, Victoria etc) are banned from this challenge; let's see smaller, less well-known, and more intimate views.

Candlelight Portrait
Challenge finished on Friday, 06 Feb 2009
Capturing the warm glow of candlelight in photographs can be quite challenging. Faster lenses, using tripods and slower shutter speeds is the trick here. Try using reflectors to throw in some extra light. But to throw a spanner in the works, we're going to disqualify the most obvious subject - children (big and small) blowing out their birthday cake candles.
