"White Orb" Removal (BEFORE and AFTER) Challenge finished on Thursday, 26 Apr 2012 The Fujifilm X10 and X-S1 have become infamous for "white orbs" caused by blooming of saturated pixels -- this challenge is about using post-processing to replace these artifacts with something that looks less disturbing. In this challenge, you are to submit a pair of images: an original image that is ruined by orbs (BEFORE) and a post-processed copy of the same image (AFTER). As a service to the community and an academic research project, I've created a free tool that tries to do this: http://aggregate.org/DIT/DEORBIT/ . You may use that tool and/or any editing tools you wish. Let's see how well we can make this problem go away....

Wheelie! Challenge finished on Wednesday, 25 Apr 2012 Another motorcycle themed challenge. A wheelie is really showing off on a bike and I want you to show me the best picture of a wheelie that you can. The bike needs to be in the shot and the front wheel needs to be shown off the ground, otherwise it is up to you what else you want to put in the picture. Good luck and ride safe!
Billboard: Succulent fruit Challenge finished on Wednesday, 25 Apr 2012 A large green grocer wants to drive more traffic to its location with a billboard on a major thoroughfare near its location. The image must be that of a succulent fruit (one with plenty of juice and pulp) in color. The format must be 16:9. The image does not require space for text.
Winner: Fog and Trees, California.
Hidden HDR - specific rules in this challenge. Challenge finished on Tuesday, 24 Apr 2012 DPR members are well aware of HDR and some of the very dramatic photographs created with this technique. HDR solves the issue of contrast beyond the limits of the camera's sensor. You can take a high contrast scene with bright highlights and deep shadows and create an image with details and definition across the entire spectrum of the photograph. In pre-digital days (film), you would expose for the shadow details and develop for the highlights in order to produce the desired results. Entries shall consist of a photograph where HDR was required to render a full range of tones and color. Subject matter is open, but the image should have a full range of tones or colors from highlights to deep shadow/dark areas. HDR technique should not be evident, it should be in the background and the image should appear as the photographer initially saw the image.
Winner: Coal Canyon
