Creative Filters: Polariser Challenge finished on Friday, 13 Apr 2012 Achieving creative effects using polarising filters. These devices filter out light that is polarized in a specific direction. They are used to reduce reflections from surfaces and to darken the sky. They can be used to photograph objects through glass and water. Please read all of the additional rules carefully - during the first challenge I disqualified nearly half of the entries because they did not include details of the type of filter used to achieve the shot. In some photographs, the use of a polariser may not be readily apparent. For the purposes of this challenge, it should be clear to an informed observer that your photograph was enhanced by the use of the polariser.
Winner: Near Sossusvlei
Sand Dunes Challenge finished on Friday, 13 Apr 2012 Show us your best image of sand dunes. State where the sand dunes are located in the title. From http://waynesword.palomar.edu: The accumulation of windblown sand marks the beginning of one of nature's most interesting and beautiful phenomena. Sand dunes occur throughout the world, from coastal and lakeshore plains to arid desert regions. In addition to the remarkable structure and patterns of sand dunes, they also provide habitats for a variety of life which is marvelously adapted to this unique environment. Picturesque dunes against a sky of blue or a full moon, with perfectly contoured shadows of ripples and undulating crests, have always been a favorite subject of photographers. Dunes have also been the subject of many desert movies, and have historically been a formidable barrier to vehicular and rail travel. Depending upon one's particular situation, they can be one of the most incredibly beautiful, thrilling, eerie, treacherous or just plain inhospitable places on earth.
Winner: Les Miserables 1
High School Musicals Challenge finished on Friday, 13 Apr 2012 If you had kids in a high school play, or were asked to photograph someone else's kid in a high school play, this challenge is for you. We've all been there: uneven and unpredictable lighting, no flash or any control over lighting, and you're shooting from somewhere in the audience. Not the easiest thing to do.
