Challenge finished on Tuesday, 12 May 2009
The second of the regular reportage series. This is a series that encourages entrants to take photos in their daily lives and be reporters of their personal stories. Pets
Challenge finished on Tuesday, 12 May 2009
An obvious theme but try to find the BEST photos of your pets that you can find, whether new or in your archives. The only real limitation is that it be actual pets that people would commonly have. (Sorry Texas lion and tiger owners!) Iguanas, yes; Komodo Dragons, no! I would hope that voters would pay attention to elements of surprise and not the all too common baby sitting on the dog's head.

Recreate a classic movie still
Challenge finished on Sunday, 10 May 2009
Rick heartbroken in Casablanca, Rhett Butler in the old south, Marilyn playing the ukelele, Don Corleone listening to a fellow Sicilian's complaint. The list of possible settings is limitless. Please recreate a scene from a classic movie as best as you can--clothes, postures, space, and lighting. The subjects don't have to look like the original actors, and the background don't need to match the original. But please try to stay with movie scenes from classics that can be recognized by most viewer. What is a classic? For some film historians it would be a movie produced between the '30's and the 50's in Hollywood, but not in this challenge. You have a La Dolce Vita scene in mind? Last Year in Marienbad? Chinatown? The Matrix? Goodfellas? Amelie? Wallace and Gromit? Borat? They are all fine!

C I N E M A S C O P E
Challenge finished on Sunday, 10 May 2009
This challenge is about widescreen images with reference to Cinemascope, which had been developed for the movies in the 50's. Originally Cinemascope it meant an aspect ratio of 2.66:1, finally a 2.35:1 ratio, which is still used today. The main point of the challenge is creating a compelling image which has an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 (width:height)! Everything goes, architecture, portraits, macros (?) ... Please do not limit yourself to wideangle landscape shots and try to think a bit in a filmic way, where also tele lenses are used to fill up the screen. One approach could be to use some tape on the screen if you have life view ... it is not as easy aas you may think right now.
