Winner: HUMMINGBIRD MOTH ON SPOTTED KNAPWEED
Moths, The Modest Beauties Challenge finished on Saturday, 29 Jun 2013 In this challenge, show us the beauty of moths, Order Lepidoptera. Moths are flying insects which (generally) hold their resting wings flat. Their antennae do NOT have the 'knobs' at the tips seen on butterflies. They are usually more modest in appearance than their butterfly cousins. Many are night-flyers. (Butterflies are mostly day-flyers, holding their wings upright to their body, when at rest.) Show us moths outside in their natural environment, on leaves, flowers, trees, etc., NOT inside under studio lights. HOWEVER, because moths at night are attracted to artificial lights, photos taken of these moths sitting on walls, windows, etc will be accepted in this challenge. Macro and close-up shots welcome. Check http://bugguide.net/node/view/82/bgpage for more information. Size: MAXIMUM 1,600px on LONGER SIDE.
