Tricks & Treats Challenge finished on Thursday, 07 Feb 2013 No, not the Hallowe'en kind: think of something entirely different. In one of your pictures, subtly change the content in such way that it looks almost normal (that would be the Trick)... until you look again (that would be the Treat!). So, let your intervention be subtle... and then, it should be clear what has been changed. I'm sure you all dabbled in photo-montages and composites, it's fun. DON'T FORGET TO REMEMBER: Please, follow the rules! It's the only way to avoid an unnecessary disqualification.

Show us your best image of a local who is interacting with his or her environment. Multiple subjects are fine. NOT allowed: images with a subject posing for the camera. A later challenge will be for all the other types of Laos images. Please note the difference between an environmental and a traditional portrait. If a subject is staring at the camera, posing, etc., it is not environmental.

Submit a photo of any type of food with a certain tradition behind or common staples from any specific country which must be mentioned. Fruits are allowed here but you must state the native country of the fruit. It does not have to be fancy food. For example, you can show the simple food people in Africa can afford.
Winner: Reading in Train
Newspaper editorial: Newspapers Challenge finished on Wednesday, 06 Feb 2013 A well-respected writer of op-ed pieces is about to opine about the demise of the printed paper and needs a suitable image. This old dinosaur of a writer likes to wax nostalgic and so requires a nostalgic image that evokes feelings toward a paper. The image must be of a newspaper (including stacks of papers) or something newspaper-related (e.g. news-stand). We think he'd be happiest with a photo of a tow-heading boy waving a paper overhead and shouting "Extra, extra, read all about it!" but we doubt you'd find anything like that out there today. Give it your best shot!
