As Time Goes By (Nature)

Challenge #105 in the Life in the Natural World series. Hosted by RuthC.
Challenge has finished
This challenge is seeking examples of the way everything in nature changes over time. Perhaps you see this in the life cycle of a plant, an insect, or an animal. Tiny plants become mighty trees, which die, and become the host for other plants and animals. Old leaves become the mulch for new plants to thrive. Rocky headlands erode and become sand on the beaches or new habitats for underwater creatures. Perhaps the sand solidifies to become sedimentary rock, and the cycle continues, as time goes by. Macro and close-ups welcome. Size: 1,600px MAXIMUM on the longer side.
