Photos with strong repeating vertical elements. Verticals don't have to be identical but should be of a type. This is a theme I keep coming back to and I'm curious if the appeal is universal.

Processing rules:

Only basic post processing: crop, brightness, contrast, saturation, white balance.

Capture date rules:

No restrictions.

Additional rules:

- No HDR - This is all about composition. Give it a rest.
- No composite images.
- No borders, frames, or watermarks.
- Photo must contain repeated strong verticals.
- Verticals must be all of a type (e.g., all trees, all lamp posts, all columns, etc.).
- No trying to scam the system (multiple entries, votes, etc.).

Gutted i missed the entry on this one! Oh well, some nice images submitted so ill look forward to voting.
PS DPR i think it would be a great feature if a user could select an announced challenge to get an email update when its open for entry???

I'm surprised it filled up as fast as it did, but I'd still like to limit the size in order to make voting less of an ordeal. There are a lot of good images and I'm pleased by the abstract quality of many of them.

As for reminders on challenge openings, it would be almost as easy to set one in your email client or on your cell phone. Even my ancient flip phone does this easily.

why no HDR you still have to compose it

I added the no HDR rule for two reasons. I think it distracts from the composition and wasn't relevant in this case. I'm thinking of another challenge where I will probably allow it. The other reason is personal bias. If HDR is subtle it can be a good thing but it's often overdone and reminds me of a Thomas Kinkade painting. Ultimately, I prohibited it because, as host, I can. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
