Wasps & Hornets

Challenge #37 in the Life in the Natural World series. Hosted by RuthC.
Challenge has finished
In this challenge, show us those insects we refer to as wasps, or their larger relatives, hornets. (Order Hymenoptera.) Often they aren't so friendly to those of us who accidentally encounter them or their nests. However, they are very useful, as parasitizers to control most pest insects. Macro and close-up shots welcome. The wasps or hornets, must be outside, on flowers, leaves, flying around, tending their nests, or just doing what they do; NOT under studio lights. No bees, flies or spiders etc. Check Wikipedia for more information about wasps and hornets, or http://bugguide.net/node/view/59/bgpage SIZE: 1,600px MAXIMUM ON LONGER SIDE.
