I hope someone can tell me why my photo was disqualified. It said anything or person.

In the small disqualifying-message you have been requested to explain why you consider the subject of your phtotgraph to be 'useless'.
Many a participants have been asked the same question and few photographs have been returned to the challenge based on the answer.

It did not look like it went to you so I will do it thru here.

When you saw the picture what did you think? For the last couple yrs what happened in this building was not much.. Was not trying to be political it was just the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the challenge and after reading the rules thought it a good fit. Like the old saying goes one mans junk (useless) is another mans treasure(disqualified for not being useless). That is why I think it should be still in the challenge.

Can I enter a picture of your Bridge Over The Brook Challenge ? it was totally Useless.

If your intelligence tells you that all the 100 photographers who participated and all 2290 votes cast for 'Bridge over the Brook' were for something useless you sure can post a photograph from that challenge.
And title it 'This is what my useless intelligence could think of'

I was referring to your Challenge not all the entries in it or the votes, in fact the voting seems to have followed the theme quite well, the voters could see that the Potomac River was not a brook, pity you couldn't be bothered to police it . . that is what made it useless.

I personally don't need any one to judge my challenges and, I am quite certain, neither do dpreview (otherwise there would have been a system to rate the challenges based on 'useful'-ness) .

I am quite satisfied with the volume of the entries and votes my challenges get, and this is enough indication how 'useful' the challenges are.

If some raptor thinks my challenges could not live up to his expectation my earnest request to him would be: please stay off from my challenges, stop polluting the challenge environment with gem of your comments and find out better and more useful place to blabber.

Saswata, I would respectfully like to remind you since you mentioned Dpreview that Dpreview's position in this matter is that hosts have a duty to disqualify challenge entries that do not meet the hosts stated criteria. This quote is from Dpreview, "Themes, rules and entrant limits are set by hosts, who can (or at least should) disqualify entries which don't meet a challenge's criteria." If the unqualified entries are removed by the host then the voters can properly vote on the quality of the entries and not spend their time voting on whether or not an entry meets the requirements of the challenge.

I do not wish to offend anyone, the least a host. Pardon me but in some parts of the world people prefer quality not quantity (volume), it is part of their philosophy of being.

This is a tough one. Perhaps the Challenge Intro should read "... useless in the opinion of the photographer". Otherwise, one could argue that there is not anyTHING being quite useless, and as for anyONE... it would be hard to present an image without being offensive. Or political.

Agree to your point.
But there are few things which can safely be called 'useless'... like old cars in a junkyard.
'appearing useless', perhaps, is the point to be noticed.

Something could be considered useless if it does not work as it was designed to work. An old car in a junk yard isn't used as a car (transportation) but can be recycled, different use than it was designed for.

Sometimes I think it's better not to try and interpret the title of a challenge in its literate meaning. This one is a challenge that calls to a big extend the photographer's idea about what is useless or not, and could also mean metaphorically. I, for example, could have post a self portrait :) .
