I had my entry - of the River Clyde - disqualified because the host decided my image wasn't recognisable as a river! Unbelievable! On the basis of this narrow, blinkered and stupid judgement the host of this challenge has decided that a vast number of rivers around the world are not rivers because in his crazy and ignorant opnion they DO NOT LOOK LIKE RIVERS!!!

My entry was disqualified for the same reason. I actually considered that my picture does not show both banks, therefore may not be recognizable as a river (some rivers are very wide), but the rules don't say that. The moderator could have saved us the trouble by having the rules say that. Anyway, I think some of the entries look more like creeks or streams. ;)

I agree pthorton. The host is applying his own private, subjective and unpublished rules as to what constitutes a river. Apparently a river's only a river if he THINKS it looks like one! Good thing no one submitted a photo of the Congo Delta for example!

Dear all, the theme of the challenge is very clear: river. Your entries might be taken at rivers but as long as the viewer can not differentiate whether it's taken at a lake or sea or river, it does not abide by the theme. It's as clear as this. As for insults like ignorant, crazy etc used by Micheal Leek, though as the host I have the right to delete these comments, I purposefully keep them so that those who are interested to read these comments can see the lack of basic social norms in some of the participants... By the way, the host is a "she" in this case.... Despite all, best regards....

The title of the challenge was simply 'Rivers'. I submitted an image of a river. Your 'rules' did NOT state that one criteria was that the image HAD TO LOOK LIKE A RIVER, even if it was a river, but didn't necessarily look like one. If you are going to be very subjective in how you host challenges you have to accept criticism, so please don't accuse me of a lack of basic social norms. I chose my words carefully. Please make sure your rules are clear next time.

I should add that in deleting an image of a river because it didn't look like a river to you, you were demonstrating ignorance. The word ignorance is not an insult, but a position!

A host has the right to DQ any photo that he want for any reason he feels is appropriate. It is his challenge, he has dedicated his time and effort to it. If he wants to only include traditional and non-questionable rivers, that is his perogative. Give the hosts praise, not ridicule, or there may be less and less of them. Until you host a challenge you don't realize the effort that it takes.
