My votes are in. There are a lot of photos of places I only wish I could shoot. Some really great ones in here. Not all are inline with the theme but I guess that is left open for how one takes it. A lot of nice work.

I just voted my way through the challenge ... my overall reaction to the entries is that 'solitude' is not always 'loneliness'. A quick look at both loneliness and solitude in the dictionary emphasized this point. The entries are split between the two; I voted according to my interpretation.

Before those that submitted 'loneliness' pix complain, the challenge host hinted at the difference in his introduction saying "Where the loneliness ...", asking more for a place and less for a mood.

Thoughts?

In a way I agree with you and that was one of my doubts when I was picking a photo for entry. But at the same time, I guess that introduction can be open for interpretation and since the picture seemed to blur both definitions in my eyes I opted for that one and my votes reflect that also.

In the end it was a lot of fun and this challenge and comment it's my way to say hello to all of you after lurking a little on the foruns. :)

I totally agree with you cplittleton; by definition "solitude" is a noun that refer to a situation or a state of being alone or to a place lonely or uninhabited, whilst "loneliness" is a noun that refer to sadness because one has no "friends or company" or a place is unfrequented, remote, isolated. Many really nice pics, but i think some where more oriented towards the feeling express by the human or animal subject in the picture, rather than by the place itself.
