Ansel Easton Adams (February 20, 1902 – April 22, 1984) was an American photographer and environmentalist, best known for his black-and-white photographs, with great composition and care about the light and tones. With Fred Archer, Adams developed the Zone System as a way to determine proper exposure and adjust the contrast. The resulting clarity and depth characterized his photograph. Adams primarily used large-format cameras despite their size, weight, setup time, and film cost, because their high resolution helped ensure sharpness in his images. Adams also founded the Group f/64 along with,photographers like Willard Van Dyke and Edward Weston. Adams's photographs are a source of inspiration to many of us, and a pleasure to see. Contrast and sharpness well controlled.

Good pictures on the first places, all 16th and until about 40 are good picures, Î am happy with the result, and the First place was deserved, but the other could be also on the 1st.

Many very nice shots here, all of you have been to incredible, beautiful places. The nice thing about a strong challenge like this with many votes, is that it mostly filters out the effects of the .5 star trolls out there, who unfortunately infest these competitons. We are all here just for the fun of it, to enjoy the works of others and maybe kick up our own game a bit. Quite sad, really... No matter, please enjoy and keep shooting!

Just completed my voting -a LOT of really good photography in this group! -Only a handful actually got lower ratings from me....it's going to be interesting to see who comes out on top of this very competitive field! -Congratulations to the host for choosing a great subject, and to the participants for entering such wonderful work!

Thank you, it is a good tribute to Ansel Adams, one of the greatest Photographers of all the time, let's see who are the 12 first winners, I say winners, because I saw so many very good images, it is not fair to have only one first place, but it is the way challenges work

Yes it is difficult with 200 entries, but I wanted to have more pictures because Ansel Adams style is great.

It is a matter of taking some time and vote well or just appreciate the images, they will be here for a long time, no worries.

rating dilemma.

200 entries and i've only scratched the surface looking at full size.

i've never seen a gallery quality reproduction of any of his work. (i don't think i'm alone in that boat). i have watched documentaries and perused coffee table books with his photography, but that's it. so immediately i find myself skipping past some great color shots. i seem to be looking for high contrast expansive landscapes (which neither of my entries seem to reflect, oh well).

some great entries here that would give some of his work a run for the money. makes one wonder what direction he would have taken with today's digital possibilities.
