Corn is not mature at this date in Europe, it's too bad to limit the contributions to images shot after the annoucement. I have some nice corn shots... But from last year !

This challenge has really opened my eyes as to how different words mean different things around the world. It has also helped me to realize that people from all over the world not just the USA are submitting pictures. So saying that, I did an internet search of the word corn and found out how many different meanings there are for this one little word. So enter your pictures and let the people decide!!!!! If you dont like how I run my challenge then please keep your comments and complaints to yourself or just dont look at the challenge. AFTER ALL ARENT WE ALL JUST TRYING TO HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!

They do. Your definition of corn is just exclusivly US-American.
In Great Britain corn stands for wheat.

Hi, Zuph,
my pic of Rye was disqualified because it is no corn? In my opinion corn is a general term for every mode of grain, not only sweet corn. Perhaps I've got a wrong dictionary. Next time I'll be more careful, so you might be more exactly in your description. Greetings

If you Google 'Corn' you get lots and lots and lots of photos of the yellow cobs of juiciness.... I thought the Host spelled it out fairly clearly. The term 'grain' covers everything, but 'corn' is quite specific, IMO.
You have a great photo of rye with excellent detail. :-)

in summary it seems to be a personal opinion, English is not my native language, Mais (german) is Indian corn.Whatever, thank's for your compliment! I often gazed at your pictures, great! :-)

Well, my copy of "Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary of Current English" Oxford University Press, Nineteenth Impression 1985 (which was a official textbook at school) has the following to say:
"corn: (..) 1 [U] (collective) (seed of) any of various grain plants, chiefly wheat, oats, rye and (esp. US) maize (...)"

So, while one can argue that the meaning of non-english words like the german "Korn" doesn't count, the meaning in british english is more or less wheat, calling maize corn is one of the great transatlantic differences.
(And trying to make beer out of the stuff is going too far...)

As dpreview was, up to last year afaik, a british website, one could argue that the photos depicting maize are wrong :-)
