Many of the entries are simply out of focus without following the challenge requisite of that only the subject should be out of focus and not the entire picture.

nothing in the description or rules of this challenge state that the photo has to have some element that is in focus. In the future, please do not place "complaints" without leaving a description in each complaint. Furthermore, your complaining is not valid if this is your only argument. Many entries were disqualified from this challenge. That being said, many of the entries that remain were nearly disqualified as well... I take some blame in not being as clear as I could be in the description and rules of this challenge. On the other hand, I believe a vast majority of the entries to this challenge were opportunistic and not creatively contemplated.

your sample entry showing the subject city as being out of focus and the grass foreground in focus was very misleading. If all you wanted was an out of focus picture it was certainly not made clear.

just because the sample had an element that was in focus does not make it a requirement of the challenge. I fail to see how this challenge was so difficult to comprehend. there were only three requirements that should have been easy to meet.
1. photo was meant to be a landscape or city scape (failed on many accounts)
2. the subject was to be out of focus (no mention here of an in focus element or not... creative liberty aloud).
3. must include a note or description that stated what the subject was. (also failed on many accounts.

my example was representative of all these requirements. Many of the photos entered were not. please consider this the last I will say on the matter.

In sample--one is focus, other is out of focus--my entry disqualified-but both are out of focus---if both are out of focus--should it be disqualified!Sorry to say this!If u think that they are in focus little---not worthy.

your entry was disqualified because you did not include a note or description that stated what the subject is... disqualification had nothing to do with the photo... only your ability to follow the rules.

Some entries are rather the consequence of the subject's movement and not out of focus.

I don't have a problem with motion blur being the method of an out of focus subject... "in focus" to me really just means a distinctly clear subject.

Dear Host,I see a lot of entries in which the "out of focus" doesn't seem nor a landscape nor a cityscape.What about informing the involved participants?

I have disqualified almost 50 entries to this challenge... many for the reasons you state. Many of the photos that remain are not what I intended for the challenge, but I admit that perhaps my rules where not as clear as they could be. It seams that following rules is a challenge in itself for most people. Future challenges that I host will be more specific.

Creatively out of focus or mistakenly?

my hope was for a creative/intentional attempt to make the subject out of focus. Many entries were clearly lack luster attempts at meeting the requirements. I also believe that an even more embarrassing entry is made by those who submit a photo in which the clear subject was in focus, but they remark in the comment that another point of the photo is the subject. Clearly they missed the intent of my challenge series which is titled "Landscapes on purpose". Perhaps I should have a challenge series called "Whatever I can find in my album that loosely fits the challenge requirements so I can enter as many challenges as possible".

I did not read the word "on purpose" anywhere on the rules, or anything that states it should have been an intentional out of focus. For me (who suffers from Keratoconus) out of focus is sheer accident when using the camera. Using postprocessing with the intention to achieve an artistic out of focus image is intentional. No?
