Negative space : Subjects that are nicely composed against negative space backgrounds. Negative space is defined as the area of an image not occupied by shapes or forms. Not only the subject, but also the negative space should be interesting. See this google search: http://tinyurl.com/8xqn5em This is a complex challenge, please read the instructions and the and the comments first.*** Also enter a -dummy- photo as shown in the example below as a second picture. Then make comments about the compositions and arrangements and pp of the other photo's in this challenge. Eventually you can take and enter the second picture of your rearrangement of the same objects, by withdrawing the dummy photo.

Processing rules:

Post processing is as cosmetics, use a little and it enhances the end result artistically. Use too much and the result is blatantly artificial, which is frawned upon in this challenge. So HDR and standard basic post processing is okay, as long as it is not overwhelmingly noticable.
No composites, we want honest pictures

No restrictions.

ENTRANTS MUST HAVE >25 POST/COMMENTS!
Each entrant must, on their honor, write a helpful Comment/Critique for the other 19 entries during the entry pase. It should be describing what they like and/or dislike about the photo, and what they may have done differently,
After receiving comments you can enter a second improved version of your first picture after withdrawing the dummy
Include "second version" in the title.
DO NOT WITHDRAW THE FIRST PHOTO THOUGH. we should be able to compare them.
To allow proper evalutation and balance loading times, the longest side of the submitted picture should be between 1000 and 1600 pixels
The number of participants is limited to 20. It will be announced in the comments when the challenge is full. Expect DQ if you enter after that.
Comply with the standard DPR decency rules.
Failure to comply with these rules may result in DQ.

Sorry, I'm afraid I was not clear enough. Your second picture was a totally different subject. You were supposed to adjust the first original picture or maybe another picture of exactly that same subject to enter that eventually.

As this challenge is almost over, I'm afraid that the next one in the series is delayed one week, due to me goofing. Sorry about that.

But maybe we need a break after this intensive one.

I agree with Calboy87. My photo had 11 comments while I hardly tried to comment at my best almost all of them (considering my amatorial photographic knowledge and my poor english). Anyway I agree with Patty Capps: this one has been one of the most "challenging" challenge for me too. I personally thank the hosts for giving us the oportunity to share our ideas and improve our photografic skills together....... By the way, I hope to have written something understandable!

Sorry all, I sent reminders to the silent entrants, but a bit late I'm afraid. Indeed, some entrants can't decide and withdraw numerous times. The total count of all entries, is currently 76 for instance.

I'm glad the two of you brought this up. This challenge has been particularly frustrating not only because many entrants aren't abiding by the comment rule, but are also entering a shot, then taking it down and entering another, or making improvements and removing the first. -All after receiving comments others have taken the time to make on them! Having the feedback from fellow photogs is why I enter these, and as CalBoy said, even if it's just a one sentence comment, at least it's SOMETHING! -I'm sure part of this is not being able to understand things fully, and I certainly don't envy the hosts the position of having to regulate the entries, but in this challenge, I think a few have slipped in under the wire.

I agree with you, CalBoy, quite a number of entrants don't abide by the rules of the challenge, yet they expect us poor sods to encourage their works of art, while giving nothing in return.... :-(

Why some of the contestants don't even bother to comment on other's pictures? We have 20 entries, yet my bad shot has only been commented by 11 or 12 people. I really don't care if someone just post: "this picture sucks", but at least have decency to spend time to do so.

wow! -this has been perhaps one of the most "challenging" challenges I've been involved with! -I would never have guessed finding the perfect example of "negative" space would be so subject to interpretation. This has been great in making me re-asses my own viewpoint on the subject for sure. Widening my own parameters and thinking "outside" the box more is a good thing for me. Thanks to all for making this such a great learning experience!
