Apparently the host has disqualified some entries for having a bud in them but allowed others that have no leaves to stay. Seems pretty arbitrary to me.

The rules also say "single flowers". How comes entries with more than one flower (not a bud) are not disqualified?

I agree with the leaves (or no leaves) thing. Some of the entries don't have leaves so should be disqualified. No a bud is not a flower. It's like saying a lump of dough is a loaf of bread.

Well I'm not the host, but it is a stage of the cycle and the rules did not say it had to be in bloom!

In botany, a bud is an undeveloped or embryonic shoot and normally occurs in the axil of a leaf or at the tip of the stem. Once formed, a bud may remain for some time in a dormant condition, or it may form a shoot immediately. Buds may be specialized to develop flowers or short shoots, or may have the potential for general shoot development. The term bud is also used in zoology, where it refers to an outgrowth from the body which can develop into a new individual.

the host of this challenge should start disqualifying those entries that clearly do not follow the rules. why do people don't bother to read the rules? my concern is...the challenge might get full quickly by unqualified entries...does depriving others to join the challenge.

Many of these entries are sadly lacking leaves, which is a specific requirement for this challenge.

Very true, and many also have more than 1, (Single), flower.

That's also true.

Besides, there are other works that could be read as 'single flower Photoshop challenge'. A little attention to that could cluster the pics in a more organized fashion.

That would not be a mere question of voting accordingly.
Because, as already said, these nonetheless beatifull, but non belonging participations, may prevent more genuine ones to show up.
With 386/400 and still some days to go, that may well be the case here.
