Challenge #4 in the Take a Natural Photo series. Hosted by xpda.

Challenge has finished

Photo Realism. Take a photo of any railroad train, giving a realistic representation of the train. An entire train, a single car or engine, the tracks, or just a single rail, tie, or spike are all fine. Strive for realism, and use the scene itself rather than digital processing on the camera or PC to create the art. Keep the contrast and saturation to their natural levels. Virtual bonus points for the location of the train.

Sunday, 9th October, 2011 – Saturday, 15th October, 2011 (GMT)

Processing rules:

Minimal post processing only.
No HDR.
No composite images.
No frames or watermarks.

Capture date rules:

Images must be shot after the announcement date of the challenge.

Additional rules:

Colors and contrast should appear natural and realistic -- no artificially vibrant colors.
One or more train, rail car, or train track should be the object of the photo.
Exif data with dates must not be removed from the .jpg file.
Photos not in compliance with the rules will likely be disqualified, depending, of course, on the mood of the host.

If you areusing HDR or have that look, you're not the only one up there with the look. The contest said minimal processing, realism. Yours is a gorgeous photo, but looks like it's been processed - in order to get the detail, you sacrificed clarity and texture, but still is a beautiful photo Your background looks like a painting and the texture in that smoke looks like a painting. If you look at, for example, the shot of engine 765 (I don't know who did it), similar lighting conditions, you can see that the light on the engine is glass and you can see the detail and under similar lighting conditions, the trees in the background look more photorealistic. Tell us more about your picture - maybe you use different filters? Just curious, myself.

If my picture got dqed because no HDR is allowed, but I did not HDR, what can I do to make sure that doesn't happen again? I changed the contrast of the picture to brighten it some. Is that what gave the challenge host the wrong idea? Just wondering. I don't mind being dqed except for reasons that don't apply.
