i truly feel sorry for those kids in the Window Shopping photo...it would have been ok if the photo was taken and used for the right reasons...but as an entry to this challenge...sad... :(

My entry "swimmer" has been disqualified: understandable.
The Challenge’s title could be interpreted by showing a photograph of someone dressed as frogman (for ex.) going to a tea party at Buckingham Palace as much as by showing a swimmer without a swimsuit.
Personally I feel embarassed at the view of photograph “boy2” where a nude minor is shown, and also by the photograph “side” whose excess of masculinity is conveyed by the hairiness, but again it’s subjective. And the choice of whether a particular photograph stays or not in the Challenge is deputed to the Host.
And not all hosts think the same way, as is demonstrated by the fact that my entry “swimmer”, disqualified in this Challenge (Sept 11) was accepted and placed 22nd of 408 entries in the previous Challenge “Faceless Portrait”, hosted by Simon Joinson (Feb 09). “O Tempora o Mores” or in this case “O Hospes o Mores”.

I was going to abstain from posting in this due to the fact that "No nudity is allowed" but, after allowing SEVERAL others to seemingly have no problem entering photos with similar nudity to the photo I had in mind, I went ahead and posted a photo I took that won at a local festival. Today, I received notice that MY photo was removed for nudity. So being the curious type that I am, I hop into the "Challenges open for voting" section and find MANY nude photos still in place. I'm not sure what was different from mine than any others, in fact I see some that are in my opinion in very poor taste (topless women on beaches seemingly unaware they're being photographed!). I apologize to those I am about to flag as Offensive, but I feel as though it is fair treatment for them to be put under equal scrutiny.

Although I am participating in this challenge, there are a few shots I find of dubious accetability (I hope mine will be considered fine...voting and subsequent comments will tell!). E.g. shots 'stolen' without the subject's knowledge seem disrespectful imho.
Stricter rules and hosting might have been better here...

I get the various aspects of the argument being thrown around about whether or not this challenge is appropriate (artistic expression vs cultural sensitivity vs forum rules etc. etc.). It's an interesting debate but the reality is that it is certainly not going to be settled here. At the end of the day it will be up to DPReview management as to whether this challenge goes or stays, so let's wait and see (I personally have no problem if it stays, but that's just me...others have every right to a differing opinion).

One thing I do feel very strongly about though is that if you're offended by nudity, and you see a challenge entitled "clothing optional", then simply don't click the link. If you choose to click on the link and look at the pictures then don't blame anyone but yourself if you get offended. Honestly!

I have decided that I agree with RaptorUK. I think the pictures in this Challenge are magnificent and are complimentary to the female form; however there are places other than DPReview to have this display of ART. I have decided to pull my entry as I never want to offend anyone but I do wish to bring up that I was Point-and-Shoot till I saw a Black & White nude at an art gallery in Monterey, CA. and it transformed me and the pictures I create now are beautiful. I do look forward to voting in the challenge and I’ve sent messages to some of the challengers on how wonderful I think their picture is…

its all about respect....respect for the rules and respect for other people's cultures. if some people complain because it is offensive to their culture or because they respect the rules, let them complain. But please don't shove your own personal or cultural beliefs into their faces. These "modern" cultures that accept public nudity have their own taboos too. If someone would host a challenge titled "The Middle Finger" or "Dog and Cat Meat", do you think they would still say "Oh it's ok.. it's not offensive... as long as it's presented artistically and in good taste." ?

ok people: nudity does not equall pornography. Wake up and realise that nudes are a huge part of photography. These complaints I'm guessing are only coming from people who live in a country where they see nudity as dirty and taboo. If you visit the beaches in the south of France, many woman are topless and I'm not talking about nudist beaches. If a man can be topless why not a woman.

When an image is submitted you agree to the Terms & Conditions, part of which say this . . .

"You must only submit images that are safe for general public viewing, e.g. no nudity."

Nudity is explicitly (pardon the pun) not allowed.

Once DPReview wake up to this Challenge it will probably be binned . . .

to be fair, it should also be ok to disregard capture date, PP, copyright and all the other rules as long as the photo was done in good quality ...and for art's sake... lol!

I see beauty and I find Porn to be something that is ruining society. Here in San Francisco, there was a woman by the name Imogene Cunningham {1883-1976} who’s photography of women was an awakening. I implore you to Google that and get back to me.
