Australia has the Kookaburra, Canada has their Loon. Show photos of birds that are unique to a country. You must state in the title ordescription the name of the bird and what country it is unique to.

There is no such thing as Bird "Unique to a country"
Birds DO fly to neighbouring countries! or even continents!

Actually mate, there are birds unique to a country... like the Philippine Eagle. It is only found in the south of the Philippines. it is also the one of the rarest and one of the biggest eagles in the world. There are no known sub species of this eagle so... it is only found in the south of the Philippines. Cheers!

Emus can't fly .. they are totally unique to Australia. Also the Kiwi to New Zealand.

Take any organism group on the globe, and you will find species that are restricted to one country only. Birds are no exception. Try to look up "endemic birds" and you'll find a long list of such species.

Actually, Kookaburras are found in Papua New Guinea as well as Australia.

How 'unique' do the birds have to be?

I agree with this question...I live in a part of the US that is very diverse and fascinating. Possibly some of our fowl friends live nowhere else in the US and so their uniqueness is special. But many might possibly live someplace else in the world.

Also, I'm not an ornithologist. I just like birds. I would hate to be disqualified or to cause a rules disagreement just because my Wiki searches turned out to be wrong.

This challenge is pretty ridiculous. Not because my storks were DQ'd, but with the exception of Australien and some New Zealand birds, most birds are all over. Especially in Europe.
I saw swans in this challenge, typical for Switzerland or some other country. ???? Herons as typical for the US.
We have them by the dozens sitting along the freeway in Austria.
Some hosts should think twice before posting a challenge.

Well in the UK we've only got the one unique species, the Scottish Crossbill... and that may only be correctly distinguished by call! Are video entries supported yet?

This challenge makes a lot of sense. And it is easy enough to find birds that occur in one place and nowhere else. Take the native birds of HI as example - they are not found anywhere but on the islands. Even wikipedia has links to that; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endemic_birds_of_Hawaii
