Why should I buy a 50mm prime lens?

I made a mistake... haven't bought a 50mm prime lens yet. Show me why I should buy it!! MANDATORY to indicate brand/model of lens used for taking the picture (of course, only 50mm prime lens for this challenge).

something tells me that people like to use this focal length for portraits...

I'd like to add an entry but I'm wondering if my shot will be disqualified since I used a 50mm film lens on an APS-c sensor camera. So with the crop factor it is 75mm, but the lens itself is 50mm.

Would a shot from this lens qualify?

Oops. Didn't know the challenge was full. I guess you can disregard this post. But if you're interested I had a Yashica Yashinon DSM 50mm 1.7. I can't change the aperture, as it's an automatic lens, but the output from this lens is really nice.

Sorry, this challenge is for 50mm prime lens only. Any "exception" will generate a cascade effect - for instance, every picture taken with a zoom which covers from 30mm to 300mm could be a potential entry. Hope you understand.

Do 55 or 58 mm count? These are directed to the same effect but have additional mm's. For example: Pentax DA* 55/1.4 or Voigtländer Nokton SLII 58/1.4. I have both and none of the exact 50 mm.

can i ask what camera you have? i love the 50mm focal length, but with my aps-c camera, i have my sights on a 30mm prime that will give me the same effect.
