W. Eugene Smith was noted for his ability to tell stories through a series of photographs. According to many photography historians, he is arguably the originator of the "photographic essay". He was certainly a master of that genre as seen in his collections such as "Country Doctor" and "Minamata" He found ways of protraying the nobility of people regardless of the circumstances. His images are very poetic, and in some cases hardly seem like photojournalism. Show us your images which evoke the style of W. Eugene Smith

Processing rules:

No composites
"Art Effects" allowed as long as they reflect the darkroom work as seen in many of Smith's photos

Capture date rules:

Images must be shot after the announcement date of the challenge.

Additional rules:

Photos can be in color, but since most of Smith's best images were done in B&W, you may prefer to enter B&W images.
Landscapes and nature photos are permitted as long people are included in a way that presents them as the main subject and reflects the style of W. Eugene Smith. See the "Welsh Miners" sample image as an example.
Nudity is permitted as long as it is relevant to the narrative/editorial impact of the image. See the "Tomoko Uemura in Her Bath
Minamata, 1972" sample as an example.
