Samsung

Perhaps reflecting the new internal structure of Samsung, in which the camera division has been folded in with the rest of the electronics business, the company's stand features a large range of both video and stills cameras. The models attracting all the attention are, of course, the mockups of the newly-announced NX system camera.

A selection of lens mock-ups are shown on the body, which is shown in a variety of colors. The prototype body is of similar depth to the smallest of Olympus's Four Thirds DSLRs though the Samsung is slightly taller. It's certainly not going to be pocketable but still represents a considerably smaller format than any APS-C DSLR. At present there's no further information about the system, whether it was developed exclusively in-house or in collaboration or whether there will be any degree of compatibility with existing lens systems. The only clues to the intended lens range are the markings '25mm' on the computer renderings of the pancake lens that occasionally flash across the display screens on the stand. The screens also make clear that WiFi and HDMI are on the cards, so it would appear Samsung plans to do more than just ape DSLR functionality.

Also on show are a selection of the company's latest compacts, including recently-announced TL320 (WB100) and HZ15W (WB550) wide-angle and compact superzoom models. The stand also extols the virtues of the company's active matrix organic LED (AMOLED) screen technology - claiming superior color range (gamut), contrast in bright lighting and consistency at different viewing angles.
