 HP
Nothing new for PMA – HP used the CES show at the start of the year to launch a huge range of compacts from the entry-level fixed lens E327, through two new 'M' series cameras (the M425 and M525 - 5 and 6MP models, both with 3x zooms) to the new top of the range R725, R727 and R927 models - the latter boasting 8.0 megapixels, 3x zoom and a huge 3-inch screen. As well as being very well designed, well made and very competitively priced, the new R series cameras have impressive in-camera special effects (the 'Design Gallery') that won't replace Photoshop, but offer an unprecedented level of control and a huge range of options.
But for us the most impressive product on show isn't even a camera, but the first working example of the forthcoming 6222 wireless camera dock. This sub-$200 unit is the most complete solution we've seen to date for using your digital photos in the living room with your television. As well as allowing you to dock the camera and view the saved images on the TV (using the supplied remote control), the wi-fi compatability means it can join your home network and access images saved on network attached storage devices, to save images directly to any PC on your network and to share or print them via HP's Snapfish online photo service. Throw in a card reader (SD only), USB port (that allows you to access external hard disks for viewing or saving images) and direct print capability and you've got one clever little unit that really does allow you to sit back and enjoy your digital photography in the living room from the comfort of your armchair. Yes, we were impressed. The 6222 is expected in stores from May.
