Cool photos!Thanks to author.Iam impressed!
These are some spectacular photos! Bravo! I wonder if the rules mean they cannot be entered into other contests? Do the photographers maintain their copyright ownership if they win and get posted on the Internet?
Was there a specific theme for the contest? Quite a variety. There are a number of outstanding images here. Especially like #1, #6 and #9.
Number 2 and 3 were good but I don't see them as exceptional.
At least 3 look to be off-level, which always puts me off a bit. Nice images, though.
Maybe somewhere there are animal or sea creature websites seeking weather photos for a social media contest.
Cars rust in part due to weather so perhaps car show photos would work.
Quite a few images not related to weather, but the ones that are look very nice.
I like #9, too. And the photos are way too small.
congrats to jason w. (number nine). i met jason more than once while shooting storms and lightning in the daytona area. if there was an active storm around, he would be out there (and me too sometimes).
#6 and #10
As usual. Some of the images are shown too small here. Some works just fine though. Nice ones.
I had a killer photo and submitted it. But shortly found out that it was a vote by social media not by a panel of judges. So if you had a lot of friends and twitter followers you could win. This was not a photo contest but a popularity contest. In my opinion Jogger is correct. Free stock photos and publicity. I read where the Weather Channel might not be because of low viewer ratings.
I actually like #1 but agree, what does it have to do with weather?
Can't read? The theme was 'It's Amazing Out There'. And besides, weather affects the ecosystem and the animals in it. It's foolish to say that just because it's the "Weather" channel it has to be all about weather.
Perhaps the folks at the Weather Channel ought to take a reading of DP Review before deciding what constitutes a "Weather shot" (out there in this amazing world of ours...lol).
its the Weather Channel and not the Nature Channel or the Outdoor Channel or even the Photography Channel. One of the problems of TV these days is that the channels are going outside of their theme trying to get more viewers but actually lose them.
Seems like every organization is hosting some sort of "photo contest" .. guess its cheap way to get royalty free stock images and free publicity on sites like DPR.
##5, 8 and 10 are good, the rest are boring.
The third place winner "Rainbow Riches" is really the best of the bunch and it actually has some weather to report!
Not much weather for a 'weather' contest!? Nice pics but I would rather see more actual 'weather' pics than just good general subject pics. ODD!
Let's start a nudity pic contest - but with no nudity, sounds good for me, I don't do nudity pics, well except nude landscapes !! ;)
These photos are great, but I wish the Wx Channel would do weather again, like they used to back in the 1980/90's. Now they do almost everything but weather. I've been trying to petition them to develop a W2 channel for weather only, like MTV was supposed to do with MTV2 back in the day. Fortunately, I can get all my pertinent wx info on smartphone apps now...
That last photo looks like it was taken in the neighborhood of Microsoft's "Bliss" photo.
last 3 stood out for me, the others were so so.
Ditto. + Alaska crevice.
I agree with Gediminas 8. Homer's Alaskan ice cave photo is really good. It's right up there with the last three for me.
