Nikon at PPE 2011

Nikon has a large stand at this year's show, right inside the entrance of the show. As well as display cases full of cameras and lenses, Nikon is also hosting talks and seminars
The longest lines were to get some 'hands on' time with the latest DSLRs and compacts. Although it has been a quiet year for the Nikon F mount, the Digital SLR display was swamped with eager photographers as soon as the show doors opened.

Nikon's stand is the first thing you see when entering the show this year, and judging by the race to get in line, it looks like it might be one of the most popular. A large glass cases highlights the cameras, lenses and accessories of Nikon's brand new 1 system, and Nikon is gearing up for several days of seminars and briefings. it has been a quiet year for DSLR news from Nikon, but there's a lot of buzz on the stand around Nikon's new Coolpix and 1-system launches.

The Nikon J1,  the entry level model in Nikon's new 1 system...
And its big brother the V1, the more enthusiast-oriented camera, which offers similar ergonomics.
Nikon is also showing a small number of mockups of possible future 1-system products, including dedicated video accessories. There's no denying that the 1-system is colorful... Nikon is displaying J1s in all the colors of the rainbow (plus a few that aren't).

Nikon's latest Coolpix cameras were on show as well of course, and at a packed stand, we managed to get our hands on the new P7100, T500 and S1200PJ, among others.

The Coolpix P7100 is Nikon's flagship coolpix, bristling with manual controls.
The Coolpix P500 is king of Nikon's 'bridge' camera lineup, boasting a 36x optical zoom lens which spans 22.5-810mm (equivalent).
Nikon's first 'tough' digital camera, the Coolpix AW100 is waterproof, shockproof and also boasts built-in GPS.
The Coolpix S8200 boasts a 14x optical zoom lens.
The Coolpix S1200pj has a built-in projector, for projecting your photographs onto nearby walls
The Coolpix L120's 21x optical zoom covers 25-525mm (equivalent).
The Coolpix S9100 is Nikon's flagship 'travel zoom' camera, and offers an 18x optical zoom lens which covers 25-450mm (equivalent).
The Coolpix P300 combines a 12MP sensor with 'luxury' styling and a small form-factor.

It's been a quiet year for DSLR releases from Nikon, but the Japanese giant has found time to release one DSLR, the D5100, and two lenses, the DX-format AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 40mm F2.8, and the full-frame AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G.

This is the AF-S DX Micro Nikkor 40mm F2.8 for DX format cameras... And this is the long-awaited Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G for both APS-C and full-frame DSLRs.
The only DSLR released by Nikon so far in 2011, this is the D5100.
