Conclusions

Wow, this is a difficult one. To be honest I really like both cameras, they're both quirky and yet excellent at the same time, both exhibit class-leading image quality, the Pro 70 being slightly sharper and better balanced (but the 950 showing a better dynamic range especially at the top-end - less likely to over-expose).

However if you want to talk about features, value for money and portability the 950 can't be beat. When it comes down to bang for your buck the Coolpix 950 currently has the market all sewn up. If you want the best of all worlds, complete flexiblity, top resolution and portability it's the Coolpix 950. (Also bearing in mind that it's around $300 cheaper than the Pro70, Canon when are you going to lower your prices?)

If you do a lot of studio work (external flash), indoor flash, landscape / real estate shooting the the Pro 70 is probably the camera for you (there has also been some success with aftermarket 1.8x and 2x tele-converters on the Pro 70). The combination of the Pro 70 and 380EX flash is unbeatable as a package. If you're interested in shooting mostly uncompressed then again it's the Pro 70 (nice compact 1.9MB "digital negative"), and if the SLR look and feel appeals it's the Pro 70.

I just can't wait to see what these two manufacturers come out with next...

If you've not yet read my reviews of these two cameras then maybe you should, they contain much more detail on each camera and LOTS and LOTS of sample images.
