Digital imaging at the Mobile World Congress 2013
It is day two at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and the team at connect.dpreview.com are there, covering the newest in smartphone and tablet camera technology. We've visited the stands of LG, Samsung, ZTE, Asus and Huawei to cover their latest products and as well as news and commentary we've published several brief hands-on articles with the latest new gear. Hands-on with the Huawei Ascend P2
Chinese manufacturer Huawei has annouced the Ascend P2, calling it the 'world's fastest smartphone'. This bold statement is based on the device's 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and Cat 4 LTE connectivity which should enable download speeds of up to 150 Mbps. The phone's camera features a 13MP back-illuminated sensor and there's a physical shutter button on the phone's right side.
LG Optimus G Pro
With its beautiful IPS screen, 'crystal-reflection' back and multi-tasking ability, LG's Optimus G was one of our favorite Android devices in 2012 and helped put LG back on the map as a manufacturer of desirable high-end devices. Now the Korean manufacturer follows up with the Optimus G Pro, a 5.5-inch 'phablet' with a 13MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor. The device was recently announced for the Korean market and is now for the first time on show in Europe at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
ZTE Grand Memo
ZTE launched the Grand Memo at this year's show. While ZTE's Grand S launched at CES has a 5-inch screen, with its 5.7-inch display the Grand Memo firmly falls into the 'phablet' category where it competes with devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Note or LG Optimus Vu. Details are scant, but we do know that it features a 13MP camera sensor, too.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet
Just before the start of the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Samsung has announced the Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet. At 8 inches the Samsung's Note 8.0's screen is marginally larger than the iPad Mini's, which the new device is squarely aimed at in the small-tablet segment. Android 4.1.2 with Samsung's Touchwiz interface is running on the device. The Note 8.0 features a 5MP rear camera which allows for 1080p video recording and a 1.3 MP camera on the front for video calling and (we suppose) self-portraits.
Asus Padfone Infinity
Taiwanese company Asus has launched the latest model in its Padfone line, the Padfone Infinity, and today we've had a chance to have a closer look at this device. The Padfone is powered by a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, has an outstanding 5-inch 1080p IPS screen and captures images with a 13MP camera that also features a bright F2.0 lens. Its 64GB onboard storage should be enough for even the most demanding users, but you also get an additional 50GB of free cloud space from Asus with your purchase.
