Rare Canon EF 1200mm f/5.6L USM goes on sale in UK
A copy of one of the largest interchangeable lenses for SLRs ever produced has emerged for sale second-hand at a UK retailer. Canon's massive EF 1200mm f/5.6 L USM is a rare beast, and the longest lens in the world with AF. MPB Photographic describes it as being in mint condition and has priced the lens at £99,000.
The lens was in production for a limited time in the '90s, and it's not known exactly how many copies are in existence. According B&H, which also came into possession of a copy of the lens in 2009, it's rumored that there are around 20. The lens weighs in at 16.5kg / 36.3 lbs, and provides an angle of view of only 2.5°. It features two fluorite elements and a ten-bladed aperture. Naturally, it comes with its own locking case, official leather lens cap and a drop-in Gelatin II filter.
