Photokina 2012: Panasonic Stand Report

As usual Panasonic is present at Photokina 2012 with a very large stand which this time is located in hall 3. The Japanese electronic giant's big star at this year's show is the brand new Lumix GH3 flagship camera and this is where most of the visitor's attention is focused. However, the Lumix compact cameras take up a large proportion of the stand real estate as well, with the Lumix LX7 enthusiast compact being of major interest to the audience.

All cameras can be tested on a number of test scenes that have been setup around the stand, including a beach scene and a fake jungle where a professional photographer explains how he is using Lumix G cameras and lenses for his projects. Other sections of the stand are dedicated to Panasonic's extensive range of camcorders and the Lumix gallery where beautiful photography that has been created with G-series cameras is on display.

Several other areas have been set up to try out the various new cameras... ...including this beach scene.
Beautiful photography  is on display in the Lumix Gallery.  The camcorder section is popular with visitors, too.
Panasonic announced a plan to make two new lenses at Photokina, which are expected to become available in 2013/14 - a 42.5mm F1.2 and a 150mm F2.8... The 42.5mm lens will be the fastest autofocus lens ever made for the Micro Four Thirds system.

"The 42.5mm lens will be the fastest ever made for the Micro Four Thirds system."

What about all those f/0.95 by Cosina (Voightlander) and SLR Magic?

Not true about the 42.5mm beeing fastes lens for M43 because we had the Voigtlander with apeture of 0.95

So maybe it should be billed as the fastest autofocus lens which will be readily available.

Ironically, these shots of the Panasonic booth are almost an ad for how well the Sony RX-100 does indoors :)

I have to say the GH3 looks really nice, especially with the vertical grip. We know the video quality is great, I'd just like to see to still samples. I'm definitely buying a Fuji X-E1, but at some point, I'd love such a video camera for events and for the Vimeo shorts that I enjoy making.

We have a winner. The both with the best eye candy, and I'm not talking about the GH3.

Right... a 'Mediterranean area' with mountains of curry powder, spices, Asian straw hat, Chinese fans, not to mention a plethora of tropical fruits and many other inconsistencies!

Love the surfboard touch with the 'Lumix' logo...! Nice.

Is word on the street that there will be a late GX2 announcement to follow Photokina. It would seem that product placement has elevated the GH series to allow room for a GX2 in the line up. I'm on the wait list for a NEX6. But, since I own a GX1, a GX2 would be the more logical choice.

Didn't the GX1 only start shipping this year? I thought it was announced last December?

I am sure there should be a GX2, given the G3 ~= GX1, so the GX2 ~= G5.

At first, I was, wtf these two guys below are talking about. Good thing, I did a close inspection of the beach scene photo since the reduced size of it in my browser appears sharp and life-like, similar to the rendition of my Sigma DP2.
Edit:
I'm seeing some noise on the corners though, seems like corrected vignetting.
