Using Green Screen Backdrop

Green screen backdrops are very useful because the ordinary human skin does not have green components in it. This helps in easy background replacement without hindering the general view of the subject who is acting or posing against the green screen. If there would have anything green in the human skin, it would have removed. Thus, when acting or posing in front of the green backdrop, the subject is not allowed to wear anything green or use any prop of green color.

Using green screen backdrops has some benefits. The green screen technique is fairly easy to use and is very cost-effective. Without this technique, the studio needs huge HDTV or plasma screen behind the subject. It would be much costly to employ HDTV or plasma screen in the studio. Thus, using less expensive alternatives such as green screen background is good to employ to manage costs.

Anyone can make green background which is used in television production. It can be made of cloth which has to be painted uniformly with green color. It can also be made on a wall by painting it uniformly with chroma key green color.

Which Color & Material Is Best To Use For Green Screen Background?

Green Screen Backgrounds

It does not matter which color is used. However, make sure that the color is prominent on the subject. There are many green screen software programs which allow the users to use background of any color. A tip to remember is that use the color which best matches the color of the digital background to use. For instance – if the digital background to use contains forests and trees, green background is the best choice for shooting rather than blue or red or any other background. On the other hand, if the digital background to use contains sky or sea, blue is the best among all colors.

Talking of the material of green screen, one can use fabric, paint or paper. Fabric is easy to transport, easiest to shoot and is washable. Folding cloth backgrounds are also available nowadays. Paper, as compared to fabric, is cheaper. However, it is more prone to wear and tear and dirt. Also, it is hard to transport and is bulky. It works well in the studio, but is not good for on-location shoot. Paint works well in the studio. One can set a fixed size of the screen which can be designated as green screen. If there is some spot on the wall, it can be repaired easily and quickly by applying a little paint.
