How much time did you spend in Rochester, and what was it like being there?
What I found upon my arrival was chilling. I discovered another facet of the United States, one worlds away from the exuberance of New York City, which I had just left. A deserted downtown, abandoned shops, an unfinished subway, houses in ruins, and industrial wastelands were the scenery of this new urban landscape. In Kodak’s administrative and manufacturing buildings, time curiously seemed to have frozen during the company’s golden years.
In total I spent approximately a month in Rochester. First time was in March 2007. Following the announcement of Kodak’s bankruptcy, I returned to Rochester in 2012 to complete the series that I had begun in 2007.
