help circle visible in viewfinder nikon D5100

By edgardlogo | Published Jan 6, 2012 |

I bought a new Nikon D5100, and have a minor query about the viewfinder. When looking through the viewfinder, I can see a very faint clear circle at the centre of the view (around the central AF square). It is around four times the width of the central AF square.it is small, It is more visible against a light background, and does not affect the picture (its not in the sensor, no dust). I have taken the lens off, and looked through the viewfinder without the lens and I can still see this circle (on what I assume is the focusing screen?).Is it normal? the circle is in the center, without the fresnel pattern of the screen that i see with the lens off and looked through viewfinder

Help please...

I have Nikon D5100 and I can see the same circle in the centre. It is not an issue and it is visible on all Nikon D5100. As well as Matrix metering, the Nikon D5100 provides center weighted (75% weight for circle) and spot modes. The center-weighted circle defaults to 8mm. The spot metering circle is 3.5mm, or about 2.5% of the image frame, and meters at the center of the frame when the focus point is automatically selected, or from the manually selected focus point otherwise. On the highest models you have option to chose the circle size, but here it is with fixed size and visible through the viewfinder.
