Yuri Arcurs takes new photographers under his wing
| | Published Oct 31, 2011 | Photography and Photographers |
Anyone who has looked into stock photography will inevitably hear mention of the name Yuri Arcurs. Having entered the stock photography world several years ago, Yuri quickly soared up the ranks to land himself the title of the world's most successful micro-stock photographer. He is the world‘s number one selling stock photographer and one of the highest earning photographers in the world. In 2010, PDN magazine, voted him as one of the top most influential photographers of this decade. Extremely dedicated when it comes to digital quality Yuri recently joined a small group of handpicked photographers officially sponsored by Hasselblad. Yuri has also been granted one of the highest sponsorship agreements ever made by Profoto, sweden.??Thanks to his unusual success in the relatively new realm of microstock, Yuri has attracted worldwide attention and has been profiled and interviewed for numerous books, magazines, blogs and newspapers. He has also appeared in Photoshop Creative and Digital photographer and was granted ”Celebrity status“ at www.microstockdiaries.com.
Doubtlessly, Yuri's dedication to excellence and his endless pursuit of the highest level of quality has brought him to this prestigious position. Anyone who has worked with him or read his blog posts will recognise his tenacity for even the smallest details and his persistence for perfection. Yuri licenses over 10 million individual images per year (about 5,000 per day) and his clients include Time Magazine, MTV, Sony, MSN.com, Microsoft, Canon, Samsung, Hewlett Packard, Tyra Banks Show, Late Night Show, Scientific American, Der Spiegel and many more. Back in 2005 a Google search for ”Yuri Arcurs“ gave zero search results. Today that same search generates close to 2.1million hits or twice as many results as a search on the former Danish Prime Minister.
Yuri has now turned his views to the next generation of stock photographers. Talent is something that needs to be nutured and coached to become mature. Unfortunately not everyone with raw talent can access the necessary training and experience to become great. In light of this, Yuri has decided to take 10-15 people with this raw talent, dedication and passion for photographer into his team and train them to become brilliant photographers. The Yuri Arcurs International Commercial Photography Academy offers a fully paid education to these lucky individuals. This prrogram hopes to produce the most gifted photography class of 2015. The privately funded program will run for three years, during which the participants will be provided with a free education that includes food, basic accommodation, Internet, access to Apple Mac computers and top-of-the-range camera equipment, plus the added possibility of earning pocket money based on the participants performance.
The participants will work side by side with Yuri's current elite photographic team, learning on set and in action. They will receive tuition from some of the industry's foremost experts and working experience through interactions with real projects, clients and top models. They will also travel with the team 6 months of the year, to places like Denmark, Hawai, Norway and other countries.
Candidates will be be given the opportunity to prove their mettle during a two-week long photography boot camp in January 2012. Very little photography knowledge is needed - all that candidates need to apply for the bootcamp is a SLR camera that meets some minimum requirements laid out by Yuri. The company will also be supplying 10 people with cameras, for those who cannot afford thier own. The bootcamp will be a test of skill, dedication and attitude and will challenge the candidates to determine how they would cope in the demanding life of a commercial photographer. Even those who are not accepted into the 3 year program will walk away from the bootcamp with a wealth of knowledge and experience. The bootcamp may even be made into a reality television show.
For those that have dreamt of photography all their lives, but have never had the opportunity to realise that dream - now is your chance! Do not let this slip by! Find more details on www.arcurs.com
